Cooperation Organization

The Center will develop five satellite offices worldwide: four at the cooperating organizations outside of Japan and one in the Keihanna district in Japan.

Satellite offices

The successive establishment of the research centers at Osaka University stated above has led to a close cooperation between Osaka University, on the one hand, and Bielefeld University, Germany, Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, Italy, University of Washington, USA, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China, on the other hand. Osaka University has been cooperating with these research organizations for nearly 10 years, encouraging joint research with them and exchanging researchers.

Osaka University has played a central role in cooperation with the four foreign research organizations pursuing similar interdisciplinary research through the periods of the past research centers. The Center will again intake researchers and students from them, with its unique real-world experimental facilities and environments as incentives for them to study at the Center.

Keihanna district

The Center will recruit non-domestic researchers via the four overseas satellite offices located at these four research organizations outside of Japan. The satellite offices will recruit non-domestic researchers not only from these research centers but also from their geographical areas, Europe, the USA, and Asia.
Osaka University has been in close cooperation with three world-level research institutes in Japan: ATR, NICT, and NTT, in which many non-domestic researchers work. The Center will establish a satellite office in the Keihanna district (ATR satellite) in which these research organizations are located. ATR satellite is close to Osaka University, and it will recruit researchers from the district by using Osaka University’s cross-appointment system.

The Center plans to help the development of infrastructures both on a new IT campus of Osaka University and in the Second Development Zone in the Umekita Area, located in the Northern area of Osaka Station (handling 2.4 million persons per day). The Center will develop these campus and area as real-world experimental environments that are unique in the world, and use them to invite researchers from all over the world. This is our plan to establish a world premier research center for pursuing intelligent systems that are capable of engaging with human beings and understanding them.
